Forests in Focus 2.0 charts a course for key stakeholders to collaboratively address our most pressing needs in forest health and wildfire risk across Montana. Reflecting upon the past investments of Forests in Focus and the experiences of other states in the West, we have learned how vast our forest health and wildland fire risk issues are but have also developed proven strategies to respond to growing needs as a Montana forest community.
The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), the USFS Northern Region (USFS), and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), in close partnership with other agencies, industry, and conservation groups, are working to increase the amount of forest restoration on federal lands accomplished in Montana through the Good Neighbor Authority Initiative (GNA).
Forests in Focus
Launched in 2014, the Forests in Focus Initiative seeks to address overwhelming forest health and wildland fire risk issues across the state. Since its inception, Forests in Focus investments have supported the treatment of more than 300,000 acres of forest land, production of nearly 190 million board feet of timber, and retention of 3,000 jobs in the forest products sector.
